After a diagnosis of a neuromuscular disorder of your jaw joint, the treatment usually involves the following:

  • The first priority – relief from pain. Dr. Kaake has experience helping patients find relief from the pain of TMJ.
  • To adjust and stabilize your bite, an orthotic may be prescribed to wear over your teeth. As he adjusts the orthotic, Dr. Kaake can ascertain the precise position of your bite for maximum comfort. As you wear the orthotic, it can relieve your discomfort and other symptoms.
  • Long-term bite correction may be accomplished several ways. Dr. Kaake will help in determining the solution that is best for your particular situation.

You really can have a healthier and more beautiful smile without the pain.

The temporo-mandibular joint is one of the body's most complex joints. The lower jaw can open on a hinge, slide forward and side-to-side. The teeth, jaw joints, head and neck muscles, and head posture are all related. If there is a problem with any one of these it may affect the others.
